#59STRONG - HELP SCOTT AND MONICA MARBUT

My name is Pam Sutherland, and I have started this gofundme to assist my best friend, Monica Marbut, and her husband, Scott, while they are dealing with Scott's recent diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer, the subsequent treatments, and the time he will be out of work.

Scott Marbut, known to many around Smith Lake (and other surrounding areas) simply as “Sharky,” is the owner of Sharky’s Mobile Detailing. Scott is also known amongst the college wrestling and baseball crowds as a Division I/II sports official. Many don’t realize this, but like players, umpires are also recognized by the numbers on their uniform. Scott is #59. Scott has 5 main passions in life: God, his family, his dogs, being the absolute best detailer he can possibly be, and BASEBALL. Scott is married to Monica Marbut and the couple live in Arley, along with their 5 rescued dogs (and a few random cats). Being self-employed, Scott took a small hit when COVID became rampant. His detailing business continued doing well, but the cancelation of college sports made a huge impact on his family’s finances. This spring as things were starting to look up, Scott and Monica, took another substantial hit. On 4/1/2022 Scott was diagnosed with Stage 4 oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (tonsil cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes). Monica remains employed with the State of Alabama but is having to take extended Family Medical Leave to care for Scott as he faces his 2nd surgery on 4/26, followed by 6-8 weeks of radiation/chemo beginning in early June. It is estimated by his oncologist that Scott will be “out of commission” from 6 months up to a year. This puts an enormous strain on Scott’s family, as Monica is now faced not only with having to care for her husband, pay all their personal bills without Scott’s income, AND take on the debt/expenses for the business so Sharky can get back to doing what he does best and what he loves best! Additonally, any funds not used by Monica and Scott will be donated to various cancer research charities and St. Jude Hospital in honor of a special friend of the family.
