For those who don't know me, my name is Sergio Hernandez, I'm 32, have 3 kids, aged 11, 4 and 2 and am happily married to my loving wife. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with an advanced case of keratoconus. It's a degenerative eye disease that destroys the cornea. I'm legally blind out of my left eye because of it, but the good news is I can still get sight out of it through 2 surgical procedures and cross-linking. The cross linking will stop both my right (good) eye and left from getting worse. The surgery costs 15,800 and my family is in no shape to pay for this. It's not covered by any type of eye or medical insurance; I wish it was. What scares me the most is not the actual surgery, but me losing vision in my only good eye and then not being able to see my kids grow. I simply can't imagine my life without vision and am asking for anybody's help. Not only that, but if I were to lose vision in both eyes, then I also would not be able to work. I am asking for any help that I can get and I can say that this isn't easy for me. I am not one to ask for help, especially when it comes to finances.
