Tough times

Hi, my name is Cathy White and I am setting up this page to help my cousin. Tom is a large machinery operator who lives and works in Powell River, BC with his young son, Thomas. Just over a month ago, Tom collapsed at work. He was rushed by ambulance to the hospital in Campbell River and then transferred to the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria for diagnosis. There he was operated on to remove a brain tumor and for subsequent follow-up treatments.

Because there are no treatment options for him in his home community, Tom must stay in Victoria for the courses of treatment. There is a respite facility that offers lodging, meals, transportation to therapy, and necessary nursing care. However, the facility is currently full and there is no space for Tom. He must travel back and forth from Powell River and find his own lodging, meals, and transportation during the course of his ongoing treatments. While supported at home, neither Thomas or his mom are able to accompany Tom on his trips to Victoria. So, not only is he alone, but financially responsible for all his living costs and care.

I know times are tough with Covid restrictions, all the disasters that BC residents have had to endure since the summer fires & autumn floods, and Christmas. Because Tom is not able to work right now, finances are an added burden to the already devastatingly stressful situation for him. The next few months will be a tremendous challenge for this family and if you could help in any way, it would be very much appreciated.
