Chloe’s Journey
If you’ve followed Chloe’s story from the beginning, here’s the latest update. Her full journey is shared below.
Recently, Chloe had an MRI and a neuro-ophthalmology appointment. The good news: her tumor is still stable. The hard news: her visual field test showed significant loss. For the past year and a half, Chloe has lost vision at every single check-up. Both CHOA and Duke have told us how rare it is to see continued vision loss and thinning optic nerves like Chloe’s with a stable tumor. The theory is that, even though her tumor isn’t growing, it continues to cause pressure in the area that damages her vision.
After long conversations with her medical team, the decision was made to start chemotherapy again. The hope is that a treatment she has responded to in the past will slow or stop the vision loss. At this point, doing nothing is no longer an option. Chloe is once again forging her own path, and we are praying this will help protect her vision and keep the tumor from growing.
This means another 1–2 years of chemo, every other week, or for as long as she can tolerate it. This will be her 6th chemotherapy protocol since she was just two years old. We are exhausted from this fight, but we will keep pushing forward—for Chloe’s future, her health, and her hope.

Chloe’s Full Story
Chloe was diagnosed at just 10 months old with an Optic Pathway Glioma, a brain tumor attached to her optic nerve, tract, and chiasm. We first noticed her eyes shaking and her head turning to the side. Thankfully, her pediatrician referred us to CHOA, where an MRI changed our world forever.
For a while, her tumor remained stable. But in 2018, it grew significantly, and Chloe began her first round of chemotherapy. Since then, her journey has been full of ups and downs:
• 2018–2019: Weekly chemo. Frequent ER visits for fevers and infections.
• 2019–2020: Tumor growth while her dad was deployed. Chloe started a second chemo regimen, finishing at the end of 2020. She enjoyed 7 precious months off treatment.
• 2021–2023: A third, very difficult chemo protocol with two drugs. Severe side effects made every treatment a battle. Chloe finished in May 2023.
• Late 2023: Tumor growth again. She tried a MEK inhibitor but had to stop after 90 days due to excessive tumor growth and side effects.
• Early 2024: Chloe’s port was reinserted. She began carbo/vincristine, but side effects from vincristine caused hospitalizations. Although carbo initially shrank the tumor, she had to stop vincristine. She completed carbo in April 2025.
Now, with vision continuing to decline, Chloe is beginning chemo once more.
