If positivity is what it takes to beat cancer, then anyone who knows my brother Ben, knows this is a fight that he can win!
Over the past 6 months, Ben has been in a battle with stage 3 melanoma skin cancer. What surfaced this year was quickly identified, and the doctors got right on it. They removed the cancer along with nearby lymph nodes. After surgery, Ben immediately started immunotherapy (which is similar to a low-dose chemotherapy) in hopes to keep the cancer from coming back.
Earlier this week, Ben and his wife Sheri received devastating news. The cancer has returned. However, this time in multiple locations and possibly in his lungs. They are now gearing up for an “all-out war” against this cancer.
As you all know, Ben is an amazing entrepreneur, but with that freedom comes some hurdles many of us don’t always think about. One of which is not having employer paid health insurance. Ben and Sheri participate a “health share plan” for their medical coverage. The plan requires participants to pay medical expenses out of pocket upfront. The expenses are then partially reimbursed by the plan over time. Ben has not yet received any reimbursements from the tens of thousands of out-of-pocket dollars paid so far this year.
Ben and Sheri have done an amazing job managing costs up to this point using their savings and investments. However, this next chapter is going to be very expensive and immediate. The money needed for drugs, scans and surgeries is going to hit Ben and his family very hard at a time they are already financially strained.
I (and so many others) have wanted to know how we can help Ben, Sheri and their three beautiful children.
Beyond prayers, meals and moral support, we want to help Ben offset some of the medical expenses. We want to rally around Ben and Sheri and allow them a little piece of mind, to help reduce stress about finances on top of everything they are going through. Any amount you can contribute will go a long way to help Ben fight and beat this cancer. Your support means so much!
