Cobia was diagnosed with HIE at birth, this later lead to a diagnosis of moderate to severe Cerebral Palsy.
I don't want this to be a story of what she can't do, of her differences or of our challenges- there are many..
Cobia is one very bloody determined girl, resilient, courageous.. she has a spark, a very infectious spark, an all inspiring spark. Her smile lights up what ever room she is in, she's just so excited about life no matter what challenge she faces.
Cobia was born a boat baby, living on a sailing boat for the first 8 months of life. Until it became evident that with all Cobias equipment and lack of mobility, the dream of sailing remote places, untouched coastlines like that of the Kimberly's was no longer viable.
We adjusted and adapted our dreams,
Cobia and her family live on a beautiful island in Tasmania, Bruny Island with her pet lamb, dogs, chickens and ducks. We live right on the coast, so close to the water we can almost touch it.. and daddy can still chase his boat dreams, catching big tuna.
Bruny island is remote, you have to catch a car ferry to get here. Cobias childcare is on the mainland of Tassie, she attends 3 days a week. 65ks one way, 130km a day)- we spend a long time in our car.
Cobias copious amounts of appointments, hospital, therapists, equipment are in Hobart (75.8ks one way. With a massive car killing hill on the way to the city)..
Mummy's car is on its last legs, meaning we have to bus it to all of Cobias city appointments.. this is proving to be the biggest pain, with busy buses, having to catch multiple buses- Cobias massive pram (that no body realises is her wheelchair), and time restraints.
There's so much I would love to take Cobia too but just can't due to the impossibility of getting her there- equestrian therapy, hydrotherapy even just play dates.
It is already known facts that Cobia will need a wheelchair, with that a wheelchair accessible vehicle would be the biggest lifesaver.. something that allows us to take multiple equipment such as her walker would be a dream come true.
I have never in my life and hate the fact that I have too ... Ask for help. But my little girl deserves the world, she deserves to be given every opportunity imaginable to help her strive, flourish and achieve..
I have created a Facebook page for Cobia, I thoroughly enjoy writing and sharing our journey.. I am also a qualified Early Childhood Educator. On this page I aim to share experiences/activities, advocating, raising awareness and hopefully helping families feel like there not alone if there on similar journeys..
Thanks you for taking the time to read this.. any help is so greatly appreciated.
