Support for Shelley

On Sunday, January 31st, 2016 my beautiful friend Shelley McCarter ended up in emergency after having two unexpected seizures. Once in the hospital, it was discovered that Shelley had a mass in the frontal lobe of her brain and days of testing later revealed that the mass was in fact a tumor covering her frontal lobe and left side of her brain.

Shelley was transferred to the General hospital where she was assessed further by a neurosurgeon and the surgeon decided special equipment would be needed to remove the tumor and referred her to a neurosurgeon in Toronto.

Shelley has to be in Toronto on February 28th and she will see the surgeon on February 29th at 7:30am to have a craniotomy and biopsy performed- this will determine how aggressive they need to be in further treatment. Full surgery to remove the tumor will be on March1st, 2016.

Shelley has had more seizures this past week which have left her back in the hospital so that medical staff can attempt to stabilize her enough to fly to Toronto for this major surgery.
Recovery from this surgery will not be easy, and Shelley's parents plan to fly to Toronto with her to support her during this time of surgery and recovery.

Anyone who knows Shelley, knows that she has a heart of gold and prides herself on being the calm and constant in other's lives. She has spent her life fighting to give a voice to the voiceless and has taken several trips in the past few years to Cambodia to work with victims of human trafficking. She truly has a passion for justice and freedom for all people and she now needs our help to support her, like she selflessly supports those around her.

This next chapter in Shelley's life is not an easy one and requires funds to fly her and her parents to and from Toronto and house them as Shelley recovers in the ICU in Toronto. She needs to save her fight for surgery and recovery, so any way we can relieve financial burden will be immensely helpful.

Shelley has said "it is in times like these that you rely on the strength of others." I have assured Shelley, that in this time of uncertainty, she can rely on her friends and family to be her constant. Please join me in financial contribution and praying for one of the strongest women I have the privilege of knowing.
