I don't need to write much here about the recent devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We are so thankful that the storm moved south of us, but this one hit very close to us both literally and emotionally.
It hit us in our heart-Our girls' sweet nanny, Margie Javier, found out that the roof on half of her house had blown off. She was devastated and couldn't eat because she kept thinking about how she was going to pay for the repairs. Even though we pay double the normal salary, they don't have the money to pay for a new one.
Margie is an honest woman who gives our daughters love and care without asking for anything in return. We trust her as if she was family and wouldn't be writing this otherwise. She goes to church twice a week and is amazingly dedicated to her faith.
In the small two-bedroom house, lives her husband, two daughters, and two grandchildren. There is often times no running water and electricity. Food is cooked outside on a open flame and we saw no restroom in the house. They do have solid cinderblock walls, but the roof is detached and there are gaps for insects and reptiles to get in. It was extremely moving to see how little they have, but how incredibly appreciative they are.
We bought them supplies to temporarily fix their roof, but we are wanting to raise funds to ensure that they have an attached roof and that their house is structurally sound and safe.
This may be a distant, unknown family to everyone else, but it's not to us. They are part of our family now and in serious need. Your money will go to ensure that Margie's family will be safe and I will send photos of the progress along the way. This money will NOT be given directly to them, but kept in a fund to pay for the materials needed. Their family has carpenters and will do the majority of the labor needed.
