Diabetes type 1
This is my 4 year old niece Penelope. 3 weeks ago she almost lost her life, and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Penelope wears a monitor and they check her glucose with finger sticks throughout the day. But, sometimes at night, her monitor doesn’t work and her levels drop low while she is sleeping. This is called “dead in bed” syndrome. When the monitor stops working at night, Penelope could drop low and no one would know to help her. She could never wake up…
They would like to get Penelope a diabetic alert dog to help keep Penny safe. This is a trained dog that would stay with Penny day and night and alert mom and dad when she is low. The dog can alert a low up to 15 minutes before the monitor would! This would give a huge buffer of time and safety to get her sugar and save her life! The dogs are not cheap, but with 3 other kids and being a military family, my sister could really use the extra backup when daddy is deployed and the other kids need attention.
Even the smallest amount will be such a blessing in helping this family meet their need. My sister has never been one to ask for anything, but Penelope really needs this. So, please, if you are able to give, it would mean so much more than you know.
Thank you and God bless.
