Aloha, my name is Mahealani Ikei and I play Libero-DS with AZ Revolution Volleyball Academy 17-Premier. I'm a Junior at Saguaro High School with a 4.3 GPA and a member of the National Honor Society. My goal is to become a collegiate volleyball student-athlete. Playing club volleyball and competing in National Open Tournaments are critical for my exposure to college coaches.
Therefore, I'm asking for your help and support by donating to my fundraising campaign or sharing with your contacts. My team will be traveling to compete in 5 National Tournaments and your donation will help with my travel, lodging & tournament costs. Any amount donated will be greatly appreciated and will allow me to get one step closer to my goal.
Here's my 2023 National Open Tournament Schedule:
- Feb 18-20 Triple Crown (Kansas City, MO)
- Mar 10-12 Red Rock Rave (Las Vegas, NV)
- April 14-16 Lone Star (Dallas, TX)
- April 28-30 Far Western (Reno, NV)
- Jun 28-Jul 6 Nationals (Chicago, IL)
Besides my club team practices, I have high school beach volleyball practice, strength & conditioning, speed & agility training and always working on my volleyball skills. My weekly schedule keeps me occupied & accountable to maintain good time management skills in order to continue my good academic standing.
I'd like to share a little background on myself, so you know your donation is well worth the consideration.
I was introduced to the sport of volleyball in the 8th grade and played on my middle school team. I wasn't very good and only played for 2 months that year, but really enjoyed the sport.
When high school started, I decided to try out for the freshman volleyball team. I was excited to make the team but both my grandparents got very sick and my family decided to travel to Guam to be with them during the pandemic. We spent 2 months in Guam but unfortunately both Grandma & Grandpa passed away. By the time we got back to AZ the season was over, but I wouldn't have traded that moment in my life because it was a blessing to be close to my family and be there for both of them during their final moments.
During my sophomore year, I made the JV team but sat on the bench most of the year and didn't play much. This motivated me to work harder and decided to try out for a club team to gain more experience. My first club tryout was devastating as I failed to make the team and cried my eyes out. But I was given another opportunity to try out for another club and thankfully I made it. I was excited to play club and dedicated myself to putting in the work to become a starter.
This past year, I made the Varsity Team and earned the starting Libero position and was voted Defensive Player of the year on my team. I finished the season ranked #4 in the state for digs amongst the top Juniors in all of 4A Arizona High Schools with 350 digs averaging 4.4 digs per set.
When the high school season ended, I built up the confidence & courage to tryout for one of the top teams in the state. Knowing my inexperience in the sport and my height differential, as compared to the rest of the girls in my division, I knew I was the underdog and would need to stand out amongst Liberos. I'm proud to say that all my hard work paid off and I was selected to the AZ Revolution Volleyball Academy 17-Premier Team. I'm learning so much from my coaches & teammates and we are working hard to make a run at bringing home a National Championship Title.
I have been dedicated, disciplined and consistent with my effort since the day my JV bench-sitting season ended and have made tremendous improvements, but I'm not stopping there because my journey continues. With your help, encouragement and donation I know I'll reach my goal. Thank you for your support and please follow my journey on social media @maheaikei
