// UPDATE July 25, 2019//
About 8 months ago Hayley was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Each week Hayley has been traveling to Pittsburgh and receiving chemotherapy treatments. Up to this point, Hayley has been responding well to her treatments with no complications. However, in the last three weeks her health hit a brick wall. Hayley continues to be hospitalized due to her ongoing fever, a bacteria infection in her blood, and her Absolute Neutrophil Count being at 0. Although there are days she is showing slow movements of progress, Hayley fights daily to get better despite her weakness and fatigue. Unfortunately, Hayley will remain in the hospital until her counts increase, her fever stabilizes, and her body begins responding positively to her antibiotics. During this time, Lauren & Ben have not been able to work and are basically living in Pittsburgh. (2 hours away from their home in Erie, PA.) Because of Hayley's progress in the last eight months this setback really came as a shock to them. It has been very exhausting and hard not being able to see their 7 year old daughter Chloe every day. People have been reaching out and have been asking how they can help. Although we are grateful for many who have asked if they can bring toys and gifts for Hayley, unfortunately at this point she is too weak to want to play with any gifts she may receive. By donating today it will help offset the costs that are accompanied with being unable to work, the costs of traveling back and forth to Pittsburgh, and other unexpected expenses that may arise. Thank you for your continued prayers. Your love and support has been overwhelming and we simply can't thank you enough.
After alarming symptoms and a series of blood work , On November 28 we received a phone call from Hayley's doctor. We were urged to bring Hayley to the Saint Vincent's ER because the results of her blood work showed an alarming decrease of red blood cells and a higher white blood cell count. (Not to mention she had other symptoms such as a very pale coloring, fatigue, weak, lethargic, wanting to sleep all the time, enlarged abdomen, and not producing those red blood cells.) After spending some time in the Emergency Room in Erie, Pennsylvania, we were taken by ambulance to the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital to get a blood transfusion. We were also taken to Children's Hospital to explore the symptoms and blood work even further. After waiting for what seemed like forever, the results came in. Unfortunately our strong, beautiful, happy, silly and loving 3 year old little girl Hayley, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Such a heartbreaking diagnosis and one that invoked fear immediately.
The GOOD news is, it is very treatable and able to be cured the doctor's said. It still doesn't make it any easier. We are still so devastated and heartbroken. Our next steps are treatment and a two year journey of chemotherapy.
Your support financially will help us cover the cost of medical expenses that aren't covered by our insurance, help with our bills as we will need to take a leave of absence, cost of gas as we drive back and forth from Erie to Pittsburgh for her chemo, and any unexpected expenses that come along.
We are overwhelmed and grateful for the support we have received thus far. The results and diagnosis do not change the God we serve. We're hoping and praying for a miracle and we cannot thank you enough for any help you can provide.
