Hi everyone, my name is Ashley. I’m 35 years old, and I’m reaching out with the heaviest heart, hoping you’ll take a moment to read my story.
For years, I’ve lived with lymphedema, so swelling in my legs was a part of my normal life. But in March, something changed. What started as a simple bruise on my left leg quickly grew into something more. It began to swell, darken, and eventually started to bleed. That’s when doctors finally referred me to a dermatologist, and on June 11th, I received the most devastating news of my life: I was diagnosed with angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects the blood vessels in my case, in my leg. We were sent to Asheville to speak with an oncologist, and after thorough evaluation, the medical team determined that due to how rapidly the cancer is spreading, the safest and only viable treatment is to amputate my leg. I’m still trying to process this. It’s life-changing, and I’m
numb. But I know I’m not alone I know God is walking this road with me, even when I feel overwhelmed.
This Friday, we went to Chapel Hill met with the surgical team and prepare for what’s ahead. They want an MRI done on leg sent me home to have it done in lenoir, nc instead of the hospital waiting for insurance to approve this then they will make a decision. I’m still bedridden, in constant pain, and was no longer working hoping to get disability keep up with bills.
The truth is, the medical expenses are mounting far beyond what I can manage. Between travel costs, specialist visits, treatments, and time away from work, I’ve reached a point where I can no longer do this alone.
