Help Adam defeat Cancer!

We, Aaron/Marc/Amy/Erin/LeaAnn, are organizing this fundraiser on behalf of our brother, Adam Tang.

Adam was never able to bounce back from a cold that he caught in December 2022. Extreme fatigue continued when all other symptoms went away, but he still thought he would eventually recover. Then, while traveling to be with family in Oregon for Christmas, his flight was canceled. He expected to stay in Billings, MT for just one night, but his symptoms made him unable to drive and kept him there for 3 days over Christmas. In those 3 days he became very ill. When he was able to return home, he sought emergency care. An MRI identified a mass in his colon and lesions in the liver. This imaging was followed up by a colonoscopy and biopsies. Adam, together with his doctors and family decided to return to Oregon for care at Oregon Health Sciences University. Further testing was done which confirmed the diagnosis of Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Always optimistic, Adam has maintained hope that his journey would be shorter and easier than it has been. He had hoped to have returned to teaching/coaching this Fall. Unfortunately, as reality has set in, this will not be the case.

Adam's treatment regimen, now at Oregon Oncology Specialists, is strenuous and he is tackling it with dignity and confidence. He is receiving the maximum dose of chemotherapy every other week for an initial eight treatments. So far, he has handled the chemo well with great blood tests and metabolic panel results. With a successful shrinking of the tumors and lesions, he will be facing at least two significant and complicated surgeries and follow-up therapy over the next year.

With his current ongoing maximum dose of chemotherapy as well as upcoming surgeries, he has not been able to continue teaching, nor will he be able to return in the foreseeable future. As a result, he finds himself in a situation where his salary and employer-paid health insurance are ending, and he still faces daily costs of living plus having to personally pay for the cost of health insurance.

Adam is a high-energy life adventurer. After graduating from the University of Oregon, and some travel opportunities, he ultimately started teaching in 2007, English as a Second Language (ESL) in South Korea. Along the way, he earned a Master's Degree in Education and a professorship at Sungshin Women's University in Seoul. Most recently, after returning to the United States, Adam has been living in North Dakota, teaching EL and coaching football in Watford City (McKenzie County School District).

Adam has always been successful at taking care of himself. He had hoped and believed he would be able to return to teaching this fall. As it has turned out, this will not be possible. He is always there to help others, but now needs help “from” others. Funds will be used for:

  • cost of private pay health insurance
  • medical consultation/treatment not covered by insurance
  • future medical costs
  • living expenses while unable to work
  • medical travel expenses

With the hurdles ahead, if you would like to help, encourage, and assist Adam over the next year of treatment and surgeries, your prayers and financial contributions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Please share this with others you know who may want to help.
