Fire displaces Mike Bertao & family

Tuesday October 9, 2018 there was a 3 alarm fire on Fresno Street between Sierra and Escalon. 3 apartment units got destroyed along with a fourth that had smoke damage. One of these units occupied my good friend that I’ve know since the second grade Mike Bertao. Mike was living here with his fiancé and 3 kids ages 1, 3, and 15 and had no homeowners insurance. Everything is a total loss including their pet rabbit “Buddy”. They are having to start from scratch from clothes to furniture to cash he had saved. There’s a lot of sentimental stuff that will never be able to be replaced from his father as well. Mike works construction often working overtime every weekday to try and make ends meet.
