Support Louis' Urgent Medical Needs

This is Louis. He just turned 3, he is a super sweet and cuddly little man. He is always ready to curl up and snuggle. He makes sure to push any phones out of humans hands so that he can get love. He is my baby, he has sits with me when I cry, he tries to clean me when I bleed, he helps me make the bed by jumping on the blankets. He always finds a way to sit in my lap. He has a gentle and stoic nature that makes me wonder if he is really cat.

The last year has been very tough on him. Last February I had to take him to the emergency vet because of a partial blockage that was preventing him from urinating. After tests they found he has crystals forming in his urine that was irritating his urethra and causing severe pain. He was put on several medications and a prescription food while he recovered at home. His recovery took several weeks before he could urinate properly.

During the aftermath of Hurricane Helene I was unable to acquire his prescription food for some time. I was terrified what that would mean for him. As things returned to normal, he returned to his normal diet. But things fell through the cracks because I wasn’t monitoring whether he was eating his food or the other food I buy for my two female cats. His prescription food is expensive and I didn’t have the means to feed all of the cats food that costs $70 for an 8lb bag.

Last night Louis seemed to change dramatically. At the start of the day he was playing and running around with his sisters. By night time he was straining to urinate, backing himself into corners, and lashing out when the other cats came near him. At 3 am he was throwing up due to the pain. I rushed him the emergency vet. He had a complete blockage in his urethra. The vets rushed to medicate him. His blood tests showed he had high potassium levels, and a heart arrhythmia. They fought to stabilize him so they could proceed with draining his bladder and inserting a catheter. He is being kept overnight so they can monitor him.

The vets suggested a Perineal urethrostomy or PU. The surgery would cost upwards of $3,000. I found myself scraping every penny I have, and begging family members just to cover the $4,000 bill for todays visit. Times are hard for everyone right now, and it’s not easy to even buy groceries. After working 40 hours a week, and saving as much as I can, paying for today was all I had.

Even just giving a little bit could help pay back the loan I took out for Louis’ treatment. It could open the door for him to get the surgery he needs.

Louis is just a baby, he was dealt some bad cards but he deserves to live a comfortable life. My room is empty without him. I typed all of this and he wasn’t here to nudge my hand, telling me to pet him.

Please help me get the care he needs.
