Mischa Coleman Memorial Fund

Donation protected

The family and friends of dad Erin Coleman, and of brother and best friend, Daniel, have created this memorial campaign to assist the family with expenses following the heartbreaking loss of their angel, Mischa Coleman, aged 11.

Mischa passed away on Sept. 4, 2020 in Redwood City at Docktown Marina, in a tragic incident inside the houseboat that she loved and called home. As the only young girl at the marina, Mischa brought "all the joy" to her family, to the residents of Docktown and to the broader Maple Street communities.

Mischa was an adventurous free spirit, and loved her life on the water as her dad's first mate. Older brother Daniel, 14, helped Mischa create magical worlds daily, where they would get lost in imagination and laughter… anything for his little sister. Community members loved watching Mischa zip along the docks on her BMX bike (she'd just graduated from her small pink bike to the bigger one shown below), and watching both kids jump into Redwood Creek and swim for hours.

Perhaps most touching about Mischa was her devotion to and connection with animals. When the houseboat had been fixed up enough to move into recently, she told her dad she wanted "like 20 cats" and "like 10 dogs" in the home. Not only did Mischa love all animals, they loved her back. She had this giant innocence and playfulness, that was non-threatening and they were attracted to her.

Dad and big brother are currently in bereavement, but planning a local service with the community, as well as services with and for family in other locations in California. Erin is self-employed and was already affected by the pandemic downturn; he will now lose several more weeks' work. Our community also desires to honor Mischa's young life, indomitable spirit and intuitive connection to animals, with a touching and appropriate "in memoriam" commemorative fixture at the Marina.

The goals of this memorial outreach are thus three-fold: to assist dad Erin now with services and burial costs; second, to assist both men as they grieve through their bereavement; and third, for the "in memoriam" tribute at Docktown. Expressions of gratitude for donors toward this memorial will be publicly acknowledged, by name unless Anonymous is desired.

We all know how many people are in need right now, from displaced homeowners to those affected by the pandemic and its restrictions. In these times, any contribution is appreciated, and all will go directly to necessary expenses, and any balance to the "Remembering Mischa" memorial at Docktown and animal rescue and welfare organizations.

We thank you once more for your consideration of this appeal in these trying times. And whether you identify as Anonymous or identified by name or through a loved one, we so appreciate all the thought, care and concern that have gone into your support, donation and sharing this campaign on your social media, apps and email lists. Blessings.
