"Dear community,

My name is Sofía and my family is experiencing hardship and is in need of support after my partner Luis’ detention by ICE in early January.

We live in Minneapolis with our three year old son. We also support extended family members, including a two month-old baby, who live with us. We have all been sheltering in place since early December 2025 except for Luis.

Luis has a pending asylum case and a valid work permit. He has always followed the law and has no criminal record whatsoever. On January 3rd of this year, however, he was taken from the construction site where he was working. He has since been transferred to a detention center in Nebraska where he has been denied a bond hearing with no explanation.

We are working with an attorney to try to secure his release. We are too terrified to leave the house and my son asks about his father every day. We urgently need funds to cover legal fees as well as mounting unpaid bills, basic necessities, and two months in back rent.
