Hello,

My name is Hannah. My husband recently visited Nigeria where he went to bury his dad. He said the country is in a very sad state with inflation in double digits and the cost of living having gone through the roof. Food prices have gone beyond reach of the common family and people are literally sacrificing other important secondary needs like education to feed their children. When I visited the country in 2019 just before the global pandemic, I saw and experienced firsthand the difficulties and daily struggles. The current economic hardship seems even worse now and has affected access to education for the poor and middle-class.

Education has been shoved to the side for children of middle-class and poor families (which is most of the population) in favour of survival. My sister-in-law Mary started a school as an educator to cater to children from poor families which she runs as a non-profit. State schools in the country are non-existent after they were starved of government funding. Only privately funded education is available to children of the nation and the cost has skyrocketed given the state of the nation’s economy.

Mary has faced enormous challenges of acquiring a physical site to operate a school from and educate the increasing number of children and families coming her way. She has been forced to move from an abandoned building that floods every time it rains, to her own apartment where she lives with her husband to educate children from poor homes. A message from the founder.

My name is Mary, founder of Zika Kid Montessori. Zika Kid was established in 2021 to provide high quality education to poor children in Nigeria. Zika Kid is one out of the few Montessori schools in Nigeria that uses British curriculum to offer high quality education to Nigerian children from low-income families. We firmly believe that education is the key to giving these children a better future and, we are totally committed to making quality education accessible to mostly children from low-income families.

As a result-oriented school, we believe that with the right education and hard work, these children will attain heights they otherwise would not and help the nation in turn.

To achieve this goal, we need your help and support. We are appealing to generous donors to help with funds to build a school structure on a permanent we can call home. Our target is £15,000 to help us set up a permanent base.

Your donations will impact many families and futures, be it little or much. It will help set up a permanent base and provide electricity for the school, a costly necessity in the country among other expenses.
