Assalamualaikum,
During the Holy Month of Ramadan, it is important to think of those in our community who need our support. We are reaching out to ask for your support for the AWS's Muslimah Survivors of DV and Human Trafficking Iftar Gathering and subsequent Eid Al-Fitr Celebration.
The Asian Women's Shelter (AWS) is a community-based, non-profit emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking in the Bay Area. We are hoping to raise $1,500 to successfully hold an iftar and Eid al-Fitr celebration for past and current Muslim clients.
Last year, with generous donations provided by the community, we hosted a prep party iftar during which we made 50+ self-care packages for the Muslimah survivors as well as 20+ goodie bags for their children. As well as funded a portion of the cost of AWS's annual iftar.
Now we are asking you, our community members, to support this year's iftar gathering and Eid Al-Fitr Celebration.
There are a few ways to help:
Donate - Everything helps. Small donations have a big impact!
Post to Facebook - The more people who hear about us, the more likely we are to meet our target
Share with your community - Call your friends, tell your co-workers, make an announcement at your iftar gatherings and masajid to spread the word
Funds collected will go towards the following events and costs:
Iftar gathering:
Food for 50+ people
Self-care packages and for 50+ people
Eid Al-Fitr celebration:
Food for 50+ people
$10 Target gift cards (As Eid presents) for 50+ people
*Any surplus will be donated to the shelter. We are happy to provide receipts and details with regards to the expenditures of the events (should you so request them) and if you would like a tax-deductible receipt, we can ensure that you receive one from the shelter.
