This GoFundMe is on behalf of my brother, Joe Turk. Joe is my best friend and true warrior in the faith. He has dealt with a lot in the last few years, as I'm sure many of you can relate with. However, the most significant trials that Joe has suffered in the past few years are multiple eye surgeires. These include two laser eye surgeries, a cataract surgery, and two Retinal Detachment surgeries. These surgeries resulted from a genetic condition and experiencing head trauma while playing college football.

Unfortunately, after the second Retinal Detachment surgery, Joe got an infection in his eye, which led to severe side effects. Joe lost the majority of his vision in his right eye, only being able to make out "shadows and lights" of objects. Additionally, Joe's right eye is now crooked and misaligned with the other eye. He is unable to "track" objects with his right eye. This is a result from the Eye Muscle acting abnormally after the surgeries and infection.

Most people will not experience what Joe has gone through. While there are much worse tragedies that occur on a daily basis, Joe's suffering with essentially losing an eye is significant. He used to be an outgoing guy that was happy to be around people and brighten everyone's day, but now he is introverted and suffers with bouts of depression and anxiety. The psychological effect of having an eye that is deformed and not functioning properly is one that would take its toll on everyone. I know Joe has his hope in God (and that's the only reason he is able to get through it), but he still struggles with being who he used to be.

HOWEVER, there is still hope for Joe to have his eye realigned from a surgery known as "Strabismus Surgery," or "Eye Muscle Surgery." Additionally, having Joe's eye realigned would help the chances of him gaining "functionality" in that eye as it would be able to properly track with his other eye. The process of this surgery inlcudes the doctor loosening and tightening the eye muscels in such a way as to remedy the abnormal status of the patient.
