My vibrant, vivacious, and hilarious (words she would love to hear me use to describe her) younger sister, Ashley, is as adventurous as she is stubborn. She is a force of nature in anything she does, and always leaves her mark with every opportunity or challenge she takes on. She was doing one of the things she loved most last week: spending a day in the sun with her friends on a local farm. This summer day turned into a nightmare when the UTV she was riding in flipped, launched her out of the vehicle, and ultimately crushed her beneath it.
An ambulance arrived initially but her injuries were so severe she had to be airlifted to the ER. The extent of her injuries were devastating and continuing to worsen:
* Every single rib broken - she attributes her milk consumption to her chest not collapsing… (vomit emoji)
* Her spine fractured in two places.
* Her nose shattered.
* Several stitches, plates, and screws were needed throughout her body
* And a severe concussion
Just when we thought the worst was over, and she was moved to intermediate care, her lung collapsed.
Despite the difficulties in ICU and surgery, Ash has maintained the personality we all know and love - charming her nurses and doctors with witty responses and hilarious quips. At one point she made me laugh so hard I spit my drink across the ICU room.
But her positivity is wearing thin as the medical bills continue to pile up, and Ashley, who primarily works on the road and off of commission won't be able to work for months.
We're reaching out to anyone who knows Ashley, or who has a heart for aiding persons that experienced traumatic injuries that require long-term recovery for assistance. Even a small donation will ease the financial burden and let Ashley focus on healing.
I will continue to update on her progress, and from the bottom of my heart - thank you for being part of Ashley's healing journey.
