Surgery for service dog
Donation protected
This is Dyxxon. Dyxxon needs a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery. A couple of weeks ago he started limping on his right rear leg. I thought maybe his leg just fell asleep when he laid on it but I had my sister take him to the vet just in case. It turns out that he has a partial ACL tear and arthritis in his knee. Though ACL tears can heal on there own he is at greater risk of reinjury. Due to his large size and his bowed legs, surgery is the only option for him. Without surgery he will develop worse arthritis than he already has and he will be in pain for the rest of his life. He is also at risk for an ACL tear in his other rear leg but the surgery has a good chance of stabilizing him so he won't need a second surgery.
Dyxxon is my third service dog and he's only 2 1/2 years old. He means the world to me! And I hate to see him in pain. I lost my first service dog to cancer. He was 12 1/2 years old. My second had severe seizures and I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put her down. She was ten.
In 1996, I was shot in a drive-by which left me a T-7 paraplegic. I only have the use of my neck, hands, and arms. I’m currently confined to my bed for at least the next three and a half months if I can receive the surgery I need in January. Unfortunately, I only have disability funds and neither I nor my family can afford the surgery needed to fix his leg. Anything anyone of you reading this can do will be much appreciated!
