Ret. TSGT Rodney Carter Stage 3 Oral Cancer

Rodney is a 22 year veteran of the US Air Force.  He retired from military service in 2006. He continues to "serve" his fellow comrades by working in the VA hospital in the in-patient pharmacy. A couple months ago he went to the dentist for a normal cleaning. He told the dentist about his tooth hurting. She says his teeth are fine but his sinuses were full. He went to the clinic where he works and they treated him for a sinus infection. It didn't help. After several scans, tests, and a biopsy he was diagnosed on December 19th with stage 3 Orapharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Oral cancer caused by the HPV virus. His cancer is curable but it is 7 weeks of chemo 1x per week and radiation 5x per week. The treatments are tough and gruelling. Chemo is 6 hours each time. Radiation is about 20 minutes every week day. They make him sick and tired, literally. I, Angelina (Angela), have recently quit my job so that I can be more readily available to take care of him. His doctors put him on a FMLA until the end of May. The VA does not offer short term or long term disability so we will have no income coming in. We also found out that we will have coPays to pay towards his medical bills. As of right now we are already at nearing $500. We are on this journey together. We will overcome it because that's what we do best, together. If you can spare a couple dollars to help us we would be greatly appreciative. We are not the type to ask for help of any kind.
