Help James Get Back on His Feet After a Serious Injury.
For more than 20 years, James has worked behind the scenes in film and television as a dedicated sound mixer and boom operator. His work has helped bring many beloved productions to life, including the comedy series Nathan for You (Seasons 1 & 2), Bedtime Stories, and the cult-favorite podcast and TV series Comedy Bang! Bang!
In addition to his work in sound, James is also a filmmaker and musician. He has written and directed several films, including What Happened to Suzy (2024) and Can’t Wake Up (2026), and has spent more than 30 years creating music—releasing albums and demos such as Charity Case (1996), Farwest (2002), and his solo album Mojave City. His current musical projects include Hymns for the Nonbeliever and Function Creep (playing Saturday March 21 at The Sardine).
What Happened
On February 3rd, James suffered a serious accident when he tripped on uneven concrete and fell, breaking his right humerus bone just above the elbow. The injury required surgery on February 12th, which thankfully went well. However, the recovery process will take at least three months, including immobilization, follow-up care, and physical therapy.
At his February 27th checkup, he received a cast and confirmation that the road to recovery will take time and patience.
The Good News
James does have health insurance, which should cover most of his medical costs and his parents were able to help care for him during the initial stages of recovery.
The Challenge
Unfortunately, James’ injury means he cannot work for several months. As a freelance sound mixer and boom operator, missing work means losing nearly all of his income during recovery. While disability benefits will help somewhat, they only cover a fraction of what he normally earns.
Our Goal
We are hoping to raise $10,000, which will help cover approximately three months of lost wages while James heals and begins physical therapy. This support will allow him to focus on recovery without the overwhelming stress of lost income.
How You Can Help
If James’ work, friendship, creativity, or kindness has touched your life, please consider contributing. Any amount helps, and sharing this fundraiser with others can make a huge difference.
Your support will help James focus on healing so he can get back to doing what he loves—creating, collaborating, and bringing stories to life.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support. ❤️
Any funds raised beyond the goal will go directly toward continued recovery support, including additional physical therapy, acupuncture, and other treatments that can help James heal fully and get back to work.
