Help me stay in Canada

Hi everyone,

I’m Victoria, a 21-year-old international student from Honduras coursing my fourth and last year at St. Thomas University. For the last couple of years, my financial situation has decayed/deteriorated affecting my capability to pay for my studies, which is the reason why I’m requesting your help.

My family and I have been struggling financially for the last two years. The pandemic, my country’s economy, family illnesses, and my well-being have affected my family and my ability to sustain ourselves.

Last academic year, I made a payment plan from which I still owe the university over ten thousand (10,000) dollars. Not paying the full amount by August means that I cannot enroll in my last year this September, and it could potentially affect my application for a work permit and permanent residence.

I have worked full-time throughout my studies, and I’m working full-time this summer, but even then, I’m over ten thousand dollars short of my debt, and I have no money for my last year at university. My future is very uncertain, and I’m still not sure if I can stay here or if I have to go back to Honduras.

My last four years in Canada have been the craziest, most stressful and most challenging years of my life, but definitely the best ones so far. In my time here I have expanded my professional and self-development, connected with the community, and built a home. I want to keep growing and making memories. My loved ones have sacrificed so much for me to be where I am today, and I don’t want to give up when I’m so close to accomplishing my dream. I’m requesting your help. No matter how little you think it might be, it would mean the world to me.

Soy Victoria, una estudiante internacional de Honduras de 21 años que estudia su cuarto y último año en la Universidad de St. Thomas. Durante los últimos años, mi situación financiera ha decaído/deteriorado afectando mi capacidad para pagar mis estudios, razón por la cual solicito su ayuda.

Mi familia y yo hemos estado luchando económicamente durante los últimos dos años. La pandemia, la economía de mi país, las enfermedades familiares y mi bienestar han afectado a mi familia y mi capacidad para sustentarnos.

El año académico pasado, hice un plan de pagos del cual aún le debo a la universidad más de diez mil (10,000) dólares. No pagar el monto total para agosto significa que no puedo inscribirme en mi último año este septiembre, y podría afectar mi solicitud de permiso de trabajo y residencia permanente.

He trabajado a tiempo completo a lo largo de mis estudios, y estoy trabajando a tiempo completo este verano, pero aun así, tengo más de diez mil dólares por debajo de mi deuda y no tengo dinero para mi último año en la universidad. Mi futuro es muy incierto y todavía no estoy seguro si puedo quedarme aquí o si tengo que regresar a Honduras.

Mis últimos cuatro años en Canadá han sido los años más locos, estresantes y desafiantes de mi vida, pero definitivamente los mejores hasta ahora. En mi tiempo aquí, he ampliado mi desarrollo profesional y personal, me he conectado con la comunidad y he construido un hogar. Quiero seguir creciendo y creando recuerdos. Mis seres queridos se han sacrificado tanto para que esté donde estoy hoy, y no quiero rendirme cuando estoy tan cerca de cumplir mi sueño. Estoy solicitando su ayuda. No importa lo poco que creas que podría ser, tu ayuda significaría mucho para mí.
