I will be traveling to Kenya for two weeks in June 2024 on a medical mission through Medical Missions Kenya (MMK). We will be spending time in some of the impoverished neighborhoods of Nairobi and then move out to several remote villages. We need your help to maximize the impact of our time there providing much needed medical, social and educational relief to the underserved population in Kenya.
I have worked in Pediatric Hospital Medicine for the past 23 years caring for hospitalized children with both acute and chronic illnesses. Early in my career I participated in medical missions to Guatemala to bring my knowledge and skills to help children living in extreme poverty. It was a truly eye opening and life altering experience to not only realize how fortunate I have been because of where I was born but then to be able to give to those children who were born far less fortunate than I. My career then took another path as I spent 17 years building Pediatric Hospital Medicine programs across Southern California Kaiser Permanente. In 2022 I stepped away from my intense administrative duties to refocus on my love for the clinical practice of medicine and connecting with patients and their families. I now feel recharged and am ready again to share my skills with those children in desparate need in other nations. Please help to support our cause.
Medical Missions Kenya and Hunger Relief (MMK) was founded to help the people of Kenya by combating hunger, improving health, and promoting health education, one village at a time.
Despite the tremendous progress that has been made in global health over the past two decades, there are remote villages in Kenya where health care services are non-existent or not accessible. MMK was founded on the belief that people of all nations, regions, and classes, regardless of their social-economic status, should share knowledge of basic health facts and access to medical care. MMK targets remote rural villages to provide medical relief to locals, often poverty-stricken individuals who have been excluded from healthcare systems worldwide.
MMK’s Medical mission trips provide a comprehensive continuum of health services aimed at promoting the well being of people in underdeveloped remote villages. Volunteer groups of nurses, pharmacists and doctors provides diagnosis and treatment; establish partnerships and training with local community health care workers; conduct community medical and wellness training; and foster principles of preventative health care and healthy lifestyle living and thus improving their quality of life.
I set up this GoFundMe through the MMK charity and not as a personal account. I will have no access to the funds. Therefore, all donations are tax deductible (tax ID is EIN: 45-2463714) and will go directly to MMK through the Pay Pal Giving Fund for the purchasing of medications and supplies for the June 2024 Medical Missions Kenya. This includes essential medications, diagnostic test kits for tropical diseases such as Malaria and H.Pyroli, immunizations, educational materials and supplies such as books and pencils for schools, disease prevention materials such as HIV screening and mosquito nets and hunger relief for impoverished neighborhoods. None of these funds will be used to support the team members. All volunteers are all self funded - we pay for our own airfare, food and accommodations.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
