Intro to the project:

53 Spaceships or The Search For 53 Hidden, Ancient Spaceships is a sci-fi comedy. In it the characters Rene and Allyson from Cosmic Disco Detective Rene movie, also The Secret Society For Slow Romance movie go on adventures searching for 53 ancient spaceships that have disappeared from a government facility. The film is a comedy inspired by movies such as Slacker, Amelie, of course Cosmic Disco Detective Rene, The Secret Society For Slow Romance, Seinfeld, Northern Exposure and sci-fi entertainment such as X-Files, Star Wars, Star Trek. This is the latest film by NYC indie filmmaker and distributor, promoter Sujewa Ekanayake (that would be me :)). This is my 7th fiction feature - after Wild Diner, Date Number One, Breakthrough Weekend, Werewolf Ninja Philosopher, The Secret Society For Slow Romance, and Cosmic Disco Detective Rene. As always the plan is to create an amazing ultra-indie film, self-distribute it, and show it to as many people as possible.

Distribution goals: Part of the money raised will be used for production, and the rest for distribution - theatrical screenings in NYC, also Chicago, possibly other cities, and ultimately VOD, physical media, and YouTube release, related epic promotional and ad work. The eventual YouTube release goal is 100 million views for this movie within 1 year or so. At present my YouTube channel is at close to 700,000 views (almost 500,000 of those views came from Cosmic Disco Detective Rene - the previous movie). I have a bold plan to get 100 million views for this movie within 1 year - will require promotional and ad work, money.

People who donate money will be thanked in the credits on the movie - so, perhaps many people worldwide will see your name eventually when the movie is on YouTube and will see that you support the creation of indie film art and entertainment - and that would be very cool - community creativity! :).

Theatrical

I have screened my films in Maryland, DC, Seattle, Chicago, NYC in the past. While 53 Spaceships will most likely reach most people on VOD, web, YouTube, the 1st distribution goal is theatrical screenings - it's the best way to watch a movie! Donors will be invited to NYC screenings and screenings in any other city.

The film series

53 Spaceships movie is the 1st movie in a series of indie films that will look at fun sci-fi ideas and also will investigate possible reasons for the existence of the universe, and the ideas of meaning, purpose, and joy, enjoyment of life. It's a movie that's designed to entertain and also stimulate interesting thoughts and discussions. After 53 Spaceships movie is out I will work on making and releasing 52 other movies - each movie will be about the search for 1 of the missing spaceships + other stories. Any money left over from the 1st 53 Spaceships movie project will be used for the other projects. I'll post up details to donors when the film is done.
