Hi, I'm Emilia Ballester, creator and director of Tonalli, a Toronto-based dance company born from rhythm, storytelling, and the fire of identity.
At Tonalli, we believe in the power of movement to tell stories that matter. Our work brings together dancers from diverse backgrounds immigrant, queer, Canadian-born, Latinx, and beyond to create bold, theatrical experiences that explore who we are and how we connect with the world around us.
We fuse contemporary dance, jazz, and musical theatre to build shows that are emotionally vivid, visually striking, and rooted in story. From mythological journeys to nostalgic cabarets to explosive rock spectacles, our productions are driven by music, culture, and transformation.
This year, we’re working on our most ambitious projects yet, like Rockotitlán, an immersive dance-rock spectacle that blends Mexican and Latin-American rock music. We’re also expanding our community workshops, developing training opportunities for dancers of all levels, and producing our biggest Gala yet.
But we can’t do it without you.
Creating these shows takes time, space, costumes, and so much love and while our passion fuels the work, we still need real resources to make it sustainable.
Your donation will help us:
- Pay fair wages to our incredible dancers, designers, and collaborators
- Rent rehearsal and performance spaces
- Build costumes, sets, and props
- Offer accessible workshops and classes
- Keep Tonalli alive, growing, and thriving.
Whether it’s $5 or $500, every bit brings us closer to sharing this vision with the world.
If you’ve ever felt moved by a performance, seen yourself onstage, or simply believe in the power of art to build community, please consider supporting Tonalli.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping us dance, dream, and tell our stories.
With love,
Emilia + The Tonalli Family
