Fight Parkinson’s Disease

Running in Loving Memory of My Dad, John Ørnfeldt Skovsdal

Hi everyone,

On July 11, it will be one year since I lost my beautiful dad to Parkinson’s disease. To honour John’s memory and raise funds for much-needed research, I’ll be running a half marathon around Melbourne on Saturday 12 July.

John was one of a kind—calm, cheeky, playful, curious, warm, and humble. A true rock and roller who travelled the world, made friends wherever he went, and always had a story to share. He loved music, poetry, soccer, and his beloved Richmond Tigers. He was half Dane, half Aussie—the best kind—and his charming personality lit up every room until his last breath.

He passed away on July 11, 2024, in Copenhagen. I travelled there alone—six months pregnant and without my husband Chris or our 18-month-old daughter Clementine—to be by his side during his last moments. It was the most difficult period of my life.

He fought to the end, but Parkinson’s has a way of taking life slowly and cruelly. Watching a loved one fade away like this is something I hope most people will never experience.

Since he passed away, I’ve welcomed my son, Sebastien, who reminds me so much of Dad—it’s like a part of him is still here. Every day I see him. And every time I run, I think of him. The grief has been hard to process, but running has become a kind of therapy.

This run is not only to remember my dad but to support a cause that affects so many. Parkinson’s is a cruel and often misunderstood disease. It can be hereditary, and knowing my brother, my children, or I might carry the gene makes this even more personal. That’s why I’m raising funds for Shake It Up Australia Foundation—an incredible charity that directs 100% of donations to Parkinson’s research right here in Australia.

I’ll be joined on the run by my amazing friend Liana Sorace and possibly some others (with convincing!). Liana and I welcomed baby boys last year and are lacing up for Dad. If you’d like to run a few kilometres with us or cheer us on, I’d love to have you join.

Every step, every donation, and every kind message means the world to me. Thank you for helping me honour my Dad and support a future without Parkinson’s.
