Thank you for taking the time to read Sebastian's story.....

On November 18th 2018 we rescued our sweet boy Sebastian from an abusive situation, and on August 23rd 2021 we helped him cross the rainbow bridge. Sebastian would have turned 5 years old in October. The short amount of time we had with Sebastian is cherished.

Despite the many obstacles that Sebastian faced during the last 7 days of his life, he remained a fighter until the very end continuously displaying his lovable demeanor to those he met along the way.

Sebastian's bladder had unexpectedly blocked. He had not displayed any immediate warning signs until he abruptly stopped eating and urinating on Tuesday, August 17th. Immediately, we placed Sebastian in emergency care. 2 hours after dropping him off at the animal hospital, we received a emergency phone call that a section of his bladder had burst when attempting to drain the fluids from his bladder. The fluids began to rapidly spread throughout the surrounding areas of his bladder, which in turn began to "poison" him....as a result, Sebastian was declared medically dead. Due to the immediate action taken by our wonderful Veterinarians, he was revived back to life. However, no sooner than he was brought back to life, he was placed under anesthesia to perform emergency surgery to seal off the part of the bladder that had ruptured. Sebastian remarkably had survived death, and survived the invasive surgery.

The days following were surprisingly looking optimistic (though still cautiously) by not only us, but the Veterinarians and their team of professionals that were taking care of him. He was looking to defy the odds and was making tremendous improvements each day, surprising all of us with his progress.

At that point we felt that if he wasn't ready to give up, then we weren't either.....

On Saturday, August 21st Sebastian looked the best he had since being in the hospital....there were no indications at that point that he was to going to go backwards. There was even talk of potentially being able to bring him home that Sunday or Monday. Not even 24 hours later (Sunday), our hearts and hope diminished....Sebastian's bladder began to leak again. This caused him to decline rapidly and he became anemic and was placed on oxygen. Another surgery would have been required, and his rate of even surviving the procedure was slim. If he did survive, the odds of him having another issue were probable. We selflessly made the decision to help end his battle for him, as he was so very tired. At 9:00 p.m. he peacefully passed away.

Tragically on top of having to unexpectedly say goodbye to Sebastian, our Pet Insurance is DENYING our claim and we are left with $5,000.00 worth of veterinary bills, and nothing to show of it because our boy is gone. Despite numerous phone calls and even having our Veterinarian graciously volunteer to advocate on our and Sebastian's behalf, they are still refusing to help. This would have been Sebastian's first insurance claim since having purchased for him in 2018. We believe strongly in providing Insurance coverage for our pets, as they are truly like our "kids". Our claim would have reimbursed us for 90% of the bills. Never did we expect to face a situation where not only we'd have to fear loosing a family member, but also risk financial distress.

We have never been the type of people to ask for help, or expect anything from others. If you are reading this and are able to assist, it would not only help us tremendously at this time, but it will also help allow us to properly grieve Sebastian.

More importantly, we simply want to share Sebastian's story. We feel he deserves to be recognized and remembered. If Sebastian's story can help other pet owners become more aware and educated of the potential "scams" , and or "loopholes" that some pet insurance companies are doing, then hopefully more animals lives can be saved, and less owners will then have to bare the burden of financial stress.

Sebastian will be missed and remembered forever by those who knew him. Thank you for your time.

P.S. Please also pray, and or, keep in your thoughts our beloved 9 year old dog, Apollo. He and Sebastian were buddies and Sebastian was his companion. He is missing him too.
