In September 2021, our father went from tending his small farm in Southern Brazil to being paralyzed from the waist down overnight. After discovering malignant tumors on his spine (determined to be caused by melanoma), he underwent surgery. He worked diligently in physical therapy to gain some movement in his legs, but in March, he became paralyzed again without a definitive explanation. We are raising money to help transport him to the United States from Brazil for further evaluation and treatment. Because he cannot sit for long periods and is in severe pain, the only way to do this is via a private charter/ medical escort, which is highly cost-prohibitive. We hope this GoFundMe can help us get our father to us so that we can help him through this challenging journey. We want to give him hope for recovery and improve his quality of life so he can enjoy his family and the time he has left here on Earth. Many of you know our father—whether as Neil, Happy, Space Ghost or one of the other nicknames he gained in his life—and know what a vibrant source of energy and love he is.
