Then he got very sick.
Buddy became ill very suddenly on Jan. 19. He had a scary seizure and couldn't tolerate food or water. Buddy's mom spent the weekend chasing a diagnosis and trying to get Buddy stabilized. Now he's scheduled for surgery to remove an abdominal mass that's pressing against his liver. Surgery will take place Wed., Jan 24 at St. Francis Veterinary Hospital.
Diane Matthew is one of the hardest-working people we know, and there's nothing she won't do for those she loves. She has three rescue dogs - all seniors, with Buddy the oldest - and takes care of the dogs' increasing medical needs while holding down a full-time job and acting as a caregiver for a family member.
Buddy's $5000 surgery is added to several hundred dollars spent on the diagnostic process, and comes on the heels of another dog's expensive illness during the summer. Diane hasn't asked for help, but friends know she's under extraordinary pressure right now and we've convinced her to accept help from Buddy's pack at South Bend Dog Park and animal lovers in the GoFundMe community.
Normal blood tests and chest x-rays indicate a hopeful prognosis for Buddy, heading into his surgery on Wednesday. We'll keep you updated here when more is known. In the meantime, take inspiration from Buddy's dazzling smile and please help in any way you can.
