Update 9 August 19
From Admiral Norman:
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Thank you very much for your generous contributions to my legal defence. In light of the government’s agreement to cover my legal expenses, I would like to refund your contribution if you do not want to send the funds to one of the three charities below. Any money not refunded will be divided equally across these three charitable organizations:
Wounded Warriors - https://woundedwarriors.ca
- who provide much needed support to veterans and first responders, especially in the areas of PTSD and mental health.
Support Our Troops - https://www.supportourtroops.ca/
- who, as the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces, do wonderful things for serving members and their families
The RCN Benevolent Fund - www.rcnbf.ca - who specifically support sailors of the RCN, past and present, and their families.
Funds will be divided equally across these three charitable organizations.
If you do not wish your donation to go to one of these charities, you may request a refund from GoFundMe at this link
no later than August 23; otherwise, I will assume you want your contribution directed to the above charities.
I would like to especially thank Lee Hammond for his selfless and steadfast support in creating and administering the GoFundMe page. I will forever be indebted to him, and to you all for your kindness. I would also like to thank the team at GoFundMe for their tireless efforts administering this refund process.
Thank you all very much.
From Lee Hammond:
I’m including the details of Admiral Norman’s plan below.
GoFundMe will issue refunds in batches after August 23. You will get an email when your refund is issued, and money will return to the card you used to donate within 3-7 business days. Your donation will be returned to you in full - no fees will be kept.
Money from this campaign can only be sent to the charities outlined above. If you wish something different done with your donation, such as contributing to a different GoFundMe campaign, please request a refund from GoFundMe at shorturl.at/rAFZ9
Money from this campaign cannot be moved to other GoFundMe campaigns. If you wish your donation to move to a different campaign, please request a refund and then make a new donation to the other campaign.
If you have a different card than when you originally donated but still bank at the same place, the refund should be redirected to your new card/account (which may take longer than the 3-7 business days).
If you no longer bank at the same place you did when you originally donated, please read this article (https://support.gofundme.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001992887-Missing-Refund
) for more information and get in touch with GoFundMe if needed. GoFundMe will help with any extenuating circumstances around your refund.
If you don’t wish for a refund, there is no need to take any action, and your donation will be directed to the charities mentioned above by Admiral Norman.
In the coming days, I will provide further updates for those who have chosen to take their refund, who may wish to support other causes for which I am involved. Thank-you all for your support to this campaign. The power of Canadians to right a wrong was well demonstrated in supporting VAdm Norman, and I hope to impact the lives of more veterans in the future._____
Admiral Norman is in the fight of his life; accused of serious wrongdoing by the Government of Canada. Help him in this unequal fight for his reputation and honour. Help him have the means to mount a legal defence against his accusers.
I was a colleague of VAdm Norman in the Canadian Forces. We served together in National Defence Headquarters; he as the Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy, and me as the Director of Strategic Readiness with the Strategic Joint Staff.
Funds raised will be withdrawn directly by VAdm Norman and his legal team to an account established by him.
