Owen's Story

As many of you know, my younger brother Owen was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma back in 2022. After enduring nearly 18 rounds of chemotherapy and six weeks of daily radiotherapy, Owen was given the all-clear in January 2023. He spent the following year enjoying his newfound freedom and living his best life. However, in January 2024, we learned that Owen had relapsed and his cancer had returned. Since then, he has undergone six more rounds of chemotherapy and three months of oral chemotherapy, which unfortunately have not stopped the cancer’s growth. Owen has now chosen to take on another course of high-dose chemotherapy, hoping it will extend his life.

Owen's story is not just about a young man diagnosed with cancer, but of a boy who, growing up, was just as mischievous as the rest of us. He used to eat sticks of butter straight from the fridge and has laughed and cried just like we all have. He is a fantastic runner, football player, cricketer, golfer, and more recently, a dart player (and that probably doesn’t even cover it all!). The difference between many of us and Owen is that he has a strength like no other. He has found courage we rarely see and, amidst the most difficult and sometimes undignified circumstances, has shown unparalleled dignity — all while wearing his wonderful and infectious smile.

Although Owen has cancer, he has NEVER let it define who he is. Instead, he has chosen to live his life not just ‘normally,’ but in an extraordinary way. There is no one I know who loves life as much as Owen does, and he deserves life.

PACT

Many charities have supported us on this journey, but PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours) has been essential for Owen and our entire family. They offer treats, lunches, and care packages for children and parents in the hospital, as well as organising days out, parties, and “staycations” to give families a much-needed break. They also provide a house in Sheffield for families traveling for treatment. The team, including dedicated volunteers, is always ready with a smile, a cup of tea, and a friendly chat. PACT, we truly couldn't navigate this journey without you.

What We're Doing

Next month, Owens Uncle Ged turns 40 and to mark this milestone he has set a challenge for a small group of us to run 5-10k every day in November! We’re getting a head start on October 28th - a date that holds special significance, as it marks the start of Owen’s high-dose chemotherapy. Between us, we’re going to try and clock as many miles as possible to support this fantastic cause. There will be days when it feels like too much, but your support will keep us going.

We’d also love to get you involved — running and getting outside is great for your mental health, and through this challenge, we hope to encourage others to join us for a few runs or jogs. We’re not professional runners; we do this for fun (sometimes) and will happily run at your pace, so please accept our invitation. Message one of us to plan a run. Join in by lacing up your running or walking shoes and "donating miles" to motivate us, we’ll need it!

How Can you Help?

We’re asking for donations to support PACT, by contributing, you’ll be directly helping families get the care they need and the little moments of joy that make all the difference. If you’re able, please consider donating to this cause — whether it’s the cost of a cup of coffee or something more, your generosity will have a lasting impact.

To donate, simply use this page or contact one of us for more information on how to contribute. Your support, whether through donations or prayers, means the world to us, and we can’t thank you enough for standing by Owen and our family during this time.

God Bless x
