1/7/26 – Ok, here’s the deal. My name is Vivian, and my sister is in dire need of a George Bailey moment, on steroids. (If you haven’t seen “It’s a Wonderful Life,” the reference will probably not mean much.) But, if it’s a Christmas staple movie for you, you will remember the end of that movie when everyone in town who was touched by George Bailey’s good heart throughout the years rallied around him to pull him out of a financial pickle. Well, this is what we need at the moment - a George Bailey moment.
My sister has many friends and family that have rallied around and helped thus far (thank you!!), but we don’t have the extent of the resources needed for this major need. We are well aware that a majority of people are experiencing financial hard times right now, so we get it. We’re not alone in our plea. So, if you make it through this post, thank you for at least reading it.
My sister is works in the mental health field as an AMFT (associate marriage & family therapist), helping people with trauma, PTSD, and other forms of anxiety, grief and loss. Because of her profession and other privacy concerns, she wishes to keep her name private as much as possible, but trust me, she's legitimately in need. She also is heavily involved in animal rescue and rehab in various forms, taking care of feral cat colonies (TNR), etc.
Anyway, in the process of working toward independent licensure as a licensed marriage & family therapist (LMFT - almost there!!), regular hours and pay are not consistent. Really – not – consistent. Long story short, due to an extended run of lack of hours and pay (despite having four jobs!), bills have fallen way behind. To add to the ongoing fun, she can’t afford her prescription eyeglasses ($250), the washing machine died on NY Eve, followed quickly by the car breaking down four days later.
But, the biggest issue that brings us (very reluctantly !) here is the roof on her 65+ yr old home. It’s a goner. We have recently been inundated with rain and the 3 tarps and 51 sandbags from January of last year are no longer working. Now, the garage ceiling is collapsing, the living room has big water stains on the ceiling, and the plywood underlayment on the roof is basically rotted away. (Click through all the pics up there) ... All of the obvious low-income resources to have the roof replaced have been tried and exhausted for one reason or another (H4H, gov’t programs, roofing programs, loans, etc). This is our last and only hope of getting the miracle funds we need to replace the roof.
The size estimate for the roof is 1603ft based on the online satellite calculator (the house is 1000sf). An estimate from a roofer in mid-2025 said it would be in the vicinity of $42-45k, which included labor, materials, haul off, and permits. But at this point, anything at all would help us at least buy materials for the roof, if that astronomical number cannot be met.
So, there ya go. Thank you for caring enough to even read this far down. We appreciate (more than words can say) any help!
Thank you,
Vivian

“I say unto the poor, ye who have not [funds] and yet have sufficient, that ye remain [survive] from day to day; I mean all you who deny the beggar, because ye have not [sufficient funds]; I would that ye say in your hearts that: ‘I give not because I have not [funds], but if I had I would give.’ And now, if ye say this in your hearts, ye remain guiltless ..." - Mosiah 4:24-25
