50th Birthday Wish: Bring Wahoo Home!!

Dearest friends and fellow rescuers,

In honor of my 50th birthday this month, I have decided to start a fund to support “Undercats”. Undercats are any kitties that currently have little or no options for either medical care or adoption. Over the past decade of doing rescue with a formal rescue organization I’ve noticed a “gap” in the rescue community for what I consider Undercats.

Yesterday I became aware of a cat named Wahoo who is in a shelter in Baltimore, Maryland. Wahoo is in desperate need of a dental, has a 5/6 grade heart murmur (likely heart disease) and suspected kidney disease. Because of his extensive medical issues, he can only be released to a rescue organization. He is on his final plea. I have contacted the shelter and asked them to adopt him to me directly since I am one of the coordinators for Pets Bring Joy so that I can provide for his medical needs since no rescues have committed to him. And luckily they have agreed!!!

I have wrestled with whether or not to start my own “thing” for a long time. Wahoo has lit the fire for me to take the first steps on this new journey. His care will likely cost several thousand dollars to address all of his current issues. Unfortunately, the challenge that most rescues have is not accumulating cats considered unadoptable. And I totally get it! My ideas on how to help these cats are still evolving but ya gotta start somewhere. The funds collected through this platform would kickstart my efforts to help Wahoo with the medical care he so desperately needs.
