Help Build A House In Haiti

In Haiti, due to many different factors, very few couples get married. Many live together as if husband and wife but few ever go get married legally or in the church. Marriage costs money: the wedding ceremony, the house to live in after you are married, committing to support another financially. In a country that has very few stable jobs and very low economic opportunities, the ability to take on these financial responsibilities is rare. When Life Teen missionaries first arrived in Haiti in 2012, they found only one couple that was married in the church. Since then, God has used the missionaries to encourage the sacrament of Marriage and that number has increased to about ten couples in the Madian area where the Life Teen base currently is. I would like to introduce you to Wison and Gran Sè. They are young adults in the area that we serve in Haiti. Wilson worked his way through school and is now a teacher although he currently is unable to find a paying teaching position. Even though he does not get paid, Wilson continues to offer tutoring every day after school for the elementary aged children in the area. They come to Wilson’s house and get help with their school. He hopes that parents will offer him some financial gift for his serves but he rarely gets any. Even so, he continues to serve. Gran Sè just finished high school this past summer and is now an assistant teacher at the Montessori school on our base. For about a year now they have been engaged and hoping to get married as soon as they are financially able. In order for that dream to come true, Wilson must first build a home for them. He started building a home in his family’s yard this past summer. Daily he would wheel barrel dirt and rocks to his yard to use for the foundation. He was able to build the foundation and rebar the house but has had to stop construction when he ran out of money after he couldn’t find a teaching position. They had hoped to get married this Dec. (2017) but have had to postpone the sacrament until he can finish the house. I feel very moved to help Wilson and Gran Sè. It would probably take them a few years in their current financial condition to finish their home, if there are no natural disasters to set them back. Their natural leadership in the community with their future marriage will be a testimony to the other young adults in the area about what a family in the church can look like and the fruits that can come from it. It will be a huge blessing to the whole community and for the children that look up to them. I cannot tell you enough how much I believe their commitment will cause a ripple effect on their area of Haiti. We need more God-centered marriages in our world and especially in Haiti where it is so rare. Would you like to help contribute to helping him finish his home for his future bride and family?
