**UPDATE - There will be another running event on 19th October in Wales also raising money for Lindsey - please see below!**
The event: On October 19th a team of us will be running 50km through the Hampshire countryside to raise funds to pay for an advanced genetic test to tailor chemo treatment for our friend Lindsey who has battled cancer for 8 years.
This is Lindsey. I've known Lindsey since we were 13 years old. That chap beside her is Pete and I've known him about the same amount of time, and I was mega chuffed when they got together and got married. That gorgeous lass on the right there, that's their daughter Ellie. Anyway this isn't my story so here's why we're fundraising in Lindsey's words...
"I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer at 41. Only 2% of the population are diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at initial diagnosis! Totally shitty! My daughter was 12 at the time and I was determined to raise her to adulthood. She turns 21 in January. I am not quite sure how I've made it!
To date I have had 4 types of chemotherapy, various immunotherapies and drug treatments. I have had over 150 doses of IV drugs. I have had 8 operations, radiotherapy twice, survived sepsis, a collapsed lung and have had numerous emergency hospital admissions. Its fair to say I'm a fighter.
Last month we were told that my treatment was no longer working and I have had all the HER2+ targeted treatments. Treatment options are now very limited to extend my life and its important that the next course is chosen carefully as my body willonly be able to tolerate so much.
The Datar Exacta test pairs tumours with treatments that are likely to be successful. Chemo sensitivity testing uses advanced tumour and genetic analysis to identify the best course of treatment. Sounds great? Yes, but its not yet available on the NHS. The test alone costs £4000. "
Many of us don't appreciate the extra costs of having or living with cancer. The tests, supplements, time off work. Not for a week but ongoing. So in short, why is this important? Because its Lindsey's best chance at identifying the right treatment for her cancer and because quite frankly the world is a much better place with her in it. Karen.x

Lucy's run!
I have known this amazing woman Lindsey Hilton for over 10 years, she started as my ‘boss’ at work, but due to her being the lovely kind person she is, we quickly became friends and not just colleagues.
On 19th October, others are running 50k to support the fundraising to keep giving access to treatment and hope for Lindsey and her lovely family. I can’t join this event as I had already signed up for a half marathon followed by a 22 miler in November, based in the Welsh hills canicrossing with my dogs (https://www.canitrailuk.co.uk/copy-of-cani-trail-triology-1 ) but would like to help the fundraising cause so please anyone who is able to support us all please donate so we can raise as much money as we possibly can!
