500KM Barefoot For Enhance Humanity

Donation protected

Savannah Holmes (22) and Asha Tremblay (35) are just two ordinary girls from Kelowna, BC who wanted to make a difference.

Having lived in Uganda for 5 years, Savannah was restless to find a way to support the children of Enhance Humanity Uganda - a leadership program designed and facilitated by her Mom, Tanya Holmes.

The students accepted into the fully subsided leadership program of Enhance Humanity come from a variety of chronically impoverished situations. 80% of the students are orphaned (some as young as 8 years old), sleeping under fishing nets and digging for scraps in the slums. A team of field workers connected in the local area recommend children into the program, ensuring the most vulnerable are given priority.

"There is no organic opportunity for these kids. If Enhance Humanity wasn't there, they would never receive any education. But more than that, they would never know what it feels like to be loved and supported by someone who genuinely believes in them."

"I wanted to do something big. I wanted to challenge myself like never before. I wanted to wake the world up and running 500KM barefoot seemed like the best way to do it."

Once the idea came, Savannah ran to see Asha and pitch the idea. Despite having never run - and having a series of conditions that actually made running painful in the past - Asha jumped onboard immediately.

"We're built to serve. I'm willing to put myself in a little bit of discomfort to alleviate the discomfort of others."

On June 21st, the pair will set out to run 500KM barefoot in just 8 days - making them the first women in the world to ever achieve a feat of this size.

Funds raised through the #500Barefoot will be put to immediate use by Enhance Humanity to

1. Expand The Learning Centre

Since opening their doors in 2020, Enhance Humanity has already been forced to turn children away due to classes already operating at full capacity. By expanding the facility space, more children will have access to the services provided by Enhance Humanity.

2. Open A Lunch Program

All students rely on finding scraps to stay alive. By offering a lunch program all youth will have access to one hot meal during their classes.

3. Secure A Safe House

Several students are currently living in dangerously abusive situations with no alternative. Enhance Humanity hopes to create a Safe House where these youth can stay while appropriate arrangements are made.

4. Cover Operational Costs

Enhance Humanity depends on a fabulous group of staff who speak the local language to keep the program running. Rent, water, and electricity are all monthly expenses, currently being paid by Tanya Holmes herself.
