Unity in Action Road Trip: 5,000 Miles. 60 Days. 1 Country

US United is heading out across America this June to capture inspirational stories of commUNITY and provide us all a playbook to reunite our country.

WHAT IS US UNITED?

US United was founded in 2021 by Sheriff Chris Swanson from Flint, Michigan and Adam Mizel as a not-for-profit movement to build unity in America and to provide all of us the tools we need to reunite our country.

You may be one of the 3.2 billion people around the world who saw Chris on May 30th, 2020 walk into the middle of a hostile crowd without his gun and body armor to turn a tense protest in Flint into a march for unity. There are few better examples of the power of unity and hope.

I (Adam) have not (yet) risked my life for unity but in the same May 2020, I made the significant decision to give up my business career to dedicate my time and energy to helping the country I love overcome division. A divine energy put me in Flint, MI. in November 2020 alongside an amazing Sheriff with similar ideas and US United was born.

US United and our team are relentlessly committed to the mission: unify America at this challenging time in our country’s history. We aim to build bridges and break down barriers from kitchen tables to local communities to nationwide.

The UNITY IN ACTION ROAD TRIP

To meet this moment, US United is launching the UNITY IN ACTION ROAD TRIP across America this June.

Our goal is simple:

(1) Find inspiration, leadership and examples from regular Americans building commUNITY

(2) Change the narrative by sharing their stories across all media to show how unity is happening everyday and everywhere

(3) Leverage these proven (and simple) tools we find as a playbook any of us can use to bring our communities together right now

Unity will grow from “We the People” and it starts with each of us engaging in action.

We will begin each stop on this trip by meeting with local Sheriffs who are doing more than many know to build unity every day in their communities (see below for more details). We will then head out to meet people where they are to learn what’s inspiring them, what they are hopeful about, what keeps them up at night and to see these everyday heroes in action.

So, look for us starting in June on the roads of America. We will be wearing purple - the color of unity - and driving our big, purple and white UNITY-mobile. We will be heading into county fairs, baseball games, town meetings, restaurants, coffee shops, hospitals, and other community events with a Sheriff or two in every state AND we will be talking with people just like you wherever we go and wherever we stay. We will share what we find on social media, television, radio and maybe even in a documentary film. We are living our motto - BE commUNITY.

We know this will not be an easy journey. Division is powerful. People are scared. Raising money is hard. But now, more than ever, we all need to get involved. The Summer of 2025 is a CRITICAL moment to challenge the culture of division.

WHY SHERIFFS?

Do you know there are 3,083 Sheriff’s – one in almost every county?

Do you know what makes a Sheriff unique? Well, let’s start with the fact a Sheriff is elected by the people in their county. They are often the most popular and highest voted local leader.

What do they do? The practical answer is that they often patrol the streets (though not everywhere), operate the county jail, protect the courts, serve warrants and fill in any gap in services needed in their counties. A simpler and more impactful answer is the mission Sheriff Swanson has written on every uniform and car in Genesee County –To Protect, To Serve and To Unify.

We at US United are impressed. So, we created the first of its kind, Sheriffs Unity Network (the SUN) to elevate the work Sheriffs do to build and connect with their communities, and to help them share resources and information with each other. And then we decided to go find out how the Sheriff’s do it. The Unity in Action Road Trip was born.
