50 Water Wells in Honor of #50Lives: Ansi Alibava

REPOSTED from Sajjad Shah, Founder of Muslims of the World:

After the horrific shooting in New Zealand the entire world was left in tears.  Fifty innocent souls died for no reason except being Muslim.  A tragic event indeed leaving the victim's families completely broken.  How do we bring closure to such a devastation?  The truth is...we might not be able to, however, in Islam there is a concept called Sadaqah Jariyah.

Sadaqah jariyah is charity that continues to benefit an individual after they die.  For example, building a water well in Africa on behalf of someone who dies so they get the good deeds and reward that the well produces.   This is why we hope to raise funds to build a water well for each victim in the New Zealand shooting that was killed.  A water well that will honor them and bring them good deeds for years to come.

The Muslim Students Association at the University of Akron was able to get into contact with the founder Sajjad Shah of the non-profit organization, Muslims of the World. This campaign is being led by two individuals: Khaled Beydoun, author of American Islamophobia and  Sajjad Shah, author and Founder of Muslims of the World.  These two have spent the past week honoring the victims by sharing their stories.  They have partnered up with Pious Projects, a non profit based out of Chicago that specializes in creating water wells in different parts of Africa.  Pious Projects is a 501c3 (tax deductible) and has built over 900 water wells.  Each well will be documented, recorded, and each well will have the name of one the victims written on the well.  Each well costs $2,500 each. After we raise $2,500 to sponsor one of the wells for Ansi, Pious Projects will become the beneficiary and directly receive the funds. Here is their link! https://www.piousprojects.org/

The Muslims Students Association at the University of Akron wants to sponsor a well for one of the victims by the name of Ansi Alibava, 25, who was so excited to graduate in less than 2 months. She left India to pursue a degree in Agribusiness Management at Lincoln University. She completed her degree, was was scheduled to walk with her classmates and have her family there. Just like us, Ansi was a hardworking student looking forward to a wonderful and successful future. Any one of us could have been in her shoes. It is our duty as brothers and sisters to help her increase her good deeds in the eyes of Allah, and to engage in charity before we too meet Allah one day.

In raising 2,500 to sponsor a well for Ansi, the University of Akron Muslim Students Association will be recognized by having their organization name carved on the well. Let's make some noise everyone, and make ourselves known! University of Akron students were born to shine!
