50 surfboards to help Rafa restart on Maui

Our surf instructor, Rafaella (Rafa), her husband and 2 daughters lost everything in Lahaina (Maui) fire this week.

Rafa has been Gaia (my daughter) and my surf teacher. She has been our biggest cheerleader in the water, teaching us the mental and physical skills needed to be safe in the ocean and enjoy the waves. She has been the force in our heals, launching us into the waves, and shouting “stand up! you got this!”.

When Gaia heard that Rafa lost her home, she asked: “did she save the 50 surfboards in her garage!?”. I had to tell her that the 50 surfboards were also gone.

But this inspired us to take action! Gaia, Mira, and I decided that we’ll create 50 one-of-a-kind surfboard keychains as a means to raise funds for Rafa, and her family.

Each keychain will be handmade by Gaia and Mira in Haiku (Maui) using wood, resin paint, and glitter. We are selling these for $100 each, and will ship it to your home with a handmade thank you card.

We feel honored to get a chance to switch spots with Rafa, and launch her into the wave, shouting "stand up! you got this!".
