To celebrate my 50th year, I somewhat foolishly decided that running 50 miles along the North Downs Way would be a good idea! In order to lessen the pain, I'm raising money in aid of THE BLATCHINGTON COURT TRUST and every donation will help.
Blatchington Court is a small charity based in Hove, West Sussex and provides assistance and activities for visually impaired or sight loss children and young adults in West Sussex.
As some of you know, my youngest son, James, has a visual impairment called Nystagmus which causes involuntary side to side movement of his eyes. This makes focussing and seeing things at a distance quite difficult. Reading is a particular challenge as he gets tired very quickly and also facial recognition. Often in busy environments, he can't recognise friends and family and can find it overwhelming.
This last year has been a real struggle for James, and Blatchington Court has been of great assistance to us. Not only did they provide counselling sessions that helped James with his emotional well being and confidence, they have provided us with support as a family, as well as navigating applications for James's educational needs and social support. He also attends the art club every month and he enjoys this immensely. Last Christmas, he got to enjoy a special afternoon at Panto in Worthing, along with other families supported by the Trust. Its incredible to think how far he has come on in a year, thanks to this support.
The event is being run on Saturday 17th May 2025 and you can track my progress here:
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
