The Dream That Became a Mission

For 30 years, Michael Norreel dreamed of scuba diving in all 50 U.S. states. On June 4, 2025, at age 77, he made it real. He packed his truck and a second-hand 27-foot travel trailer and hit the road from California — diving in the exact order each state ratified the U.S. Constitution.

This isn’t just “50 dives in 50 states.”

No one has ever done it this way.

Others went random. He’s diving Delaware first (Dec 7, 1787), Pennsylvania second, New Jersey third… all the way to Hawaii (50th, Aug 21, 1959).

23 States Down — But the Trailer Is Breaking Him

He’s already conquered 23 states in just 5 months, driving 9–12 hours daily, fixing gear underwater, and editing videos and photos and planning for the next state dive at night.

But the used trailer he bought to save money? It’s become a rolling nightmare:

Leaking roof during Midwest storms

Electrical failures killing his editing setup

Leaking sinks, flat tires, busted propane — days lost to repairs instead of diving

Michael has been scuba diving for 40+ years, is a member of and certified master instructor at PADI (Professional Associate of Diving Instructors). He is active and teaches courses like Ocean, Coral, and Shark Conservation for Project Aware. He is also a boat captain, and possesses hundreds of teaching credentials in the diving field: open water diving, rescue diving, underwater photography, oxygen 1st aide, coral reef safety, emergency first response, deep diving, ice diving, along with search and rescue to name just a few — but he’s not a mechanic. These breakdowns are stealing his time, energy, and dream.
