Hi Guys!
In all of my years, I have never asked for a Go-Fund Me fundraiser — not for myself, when my entire house burnt down, or when I had my own legal battles, or when my mom, dad, and sister each had cancer…ultimately, we found a way to make it through.
Today, I am not asking for myself, but instead pleading for my cousin, Michael who has no family but me, as all of his immediate family members passed when he was still a teenager.
He is going through an extremely difficult time, and I can only help him out financially to a point, so I am asking you to pitch in as well, and to listen to his story:
Meet my cousin’s daughter Audrey - a vivacious and beautiful five-year-old who loves riding her bike, going to the park, and playing at the beach. She is an only child to her mom and my cousin, Michael, and she puts a smile on anyone’s face she meets.
On Friday, February 11th, 2022 she was playing at daycare, when she suddenly experienced excruciating pain to the right side of her body. The school staff knew something was different, and they immediately phoned the parents.
Michael rushed his daughter to the ER, and she held his hand on the way to the hospital.
Audrey was given medicine for nausea and pain.
An ultrasound and CT scan revealed the worst possible news: Audrey had a large cancerous tumor on her right kidney.
It was a Stage 3 Wilm’s Tumor, which is the most common form of childhood cancer. Although it is a treatable cancer, some children, tragically, do not survive.
On Valentine’s Day, Audrey underwent emergency surgery to remove the tumor — as well as her entire right kidney.
Many difficult months of chemotherapy followed. The family has health insurance, but there are nevertheless tens of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses for cancer treatment.
Insurance will not cover it all.
Cancer is expensive.
Nevertheless, Audrey’s spirits remained strong, and she sang songs with her father during chemotherapy visits. (VIDEO: https://youtu.be/lQxZfRwkeGA)
Audrey has been cancer-free since May, and doctors say she can now expect a normal, healthy life despite only having one kidney.
She returned to school a few weeks ago, and she was the "star" during the annual Holiday Show.
But my cousin is barely hanging on, financially. Christmas was very difficult this year.
Audrey still needs specialized therapy services to recover from the trauma she has experienced. Meanwhile, the past-due medical bills arrive in the mail and keep piling up.
In addition, during the chemo Audrey suffered, Michael has also accrued legal fees fighting for his daughter’s safety and well -being.
Legal bills as well as medical bills are astronomical, and despite my cousin working full time, he cannot keep up with the bills and may have to go into bankruptcy.
So I ask you, any amount you can donate, large or small, is very much appreciated.
I know with inflation times are rough, but maybe this can be one of your gifts of giving you can do.
Thanks for hearing our story. God Bless, and may your life be filled with Love, Laughter and Light.
