5 pigs living in fish tanks
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Austin, otherwise known as The Pig Room. I am a small business owner who makes products for guinea pigs and a voice within our community to speak on proper care for these small animals. Included in my line of work, I am constantly browsing the web to see what rehoming situations there are. With rescue pigs of my own, I always do what I can to provide for guinea pigs that I see need help, and we have one of those situations here.
I was sent these pigs by one of my dear friends, and immediately as I opened up the ad, I was met with potentially the worst situation I have ever seen. As you can see from the photos, guinea pigs are living in small aquarium tanks. There are a total of four girls cramped in one and a single male in another. Aquarium tanks are unsuitable enclosures for guinea pigs as ammonia can build up from their pee causing problems to their systems like URIs (Upper Respiratory Infections). Looking more into the photos, I see no water, hay, enrichment, tons of feces, one food bowl, etc. I am not sure how old these pigs are, but no amount of time should any pig spend their life in an enclosure like this. They are at high risk of severe illness and even fighting with one another due to the limited space.
I have created this GoFundMe as I have decided to rescue these five pigs, bring them into my home, and show them what it’s like to be in special care. All five of them will be taken to my local exotics vet for complete health checks to see if they have a clean bill of health. Donations will cover the cost of transportation (hour drive to and from), cages, water bottles, food, hay, toys, treats, etc. All receipts will be posted to Instagram, showing where your money is spent and how you have helped to save these pigs.
I am not sure of the plans for keeping these piggies, but all I want to focus on right now is getting them out of their current situation and bringing them into a better one. I will be filming the entire rescue for you guys on my YouTube channel and carrying you through the process, and making tons of update videos. If I decide not to keep them, I will adopt them to the best homes possible, even to you guys.
Thank you guys for your support and for helping our beloved pigs. I am so happy to do this and give these pigs a second chance at life.
Love,
The Pig Room
