Now we would love your support to get us to the finish line...!
Although production has wrapped, we still need funds to ensure the post-production process is of the highest quality. We want the editing, sound mixing, and colour grading to match the importance of this story — that’s why we need your support.
While this has been a passion project, it’s vital that we present the themes of this story with the respect, care, and production value they deserve.
SYNOPSIS:
When Tania and Jerome discover they’re expecting, their world fills with hope and possibility. But as labour begins, that joy collides with a strained maternity system where Tania’s pain and concerns are repeatedly dismissed. Trapped between fear and faith, Jerome is forced to fight to be heard—advocating for his wife in a labour ward that refuses to listen.
'Black women are more than twice as likely to die compared with white women...' RCM
LOGLINE:
When a joyful pregnancy turns into a battle in an overstretched maternity ward, a father must fight to have his wife’s pain believed before it’s too late.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT:
While children are born every day, every child’s birth story is unique. I believe medical professionals do their absolute best to care for every patient, but what happens when they are tired? What happens when they are overwhelmed?
What happens when a snap decision is filtered through unaddressed implicit bias? As a filmmaker and a father of three, I feel it is crucial to explore the weight of these moments. Specifically, I want to address the reality for Black women, who—until very recently—were five times more likely to die in childbirth than their white counterparts. This film is an opportunity to witness the human cost of this injustice and the lasting impact it leaves on the families left behind."
