Hi Everyone, I am Nadine. I am from St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and as you all know by now, Hurricane Melissa, a category 5 storm, caused unprecedented catastrophe on our parish capital, Black River, and surrounding areas. A lot of the communities are under water, and the damaging 185 miles per hour winds left so much devastation. The death tolls have been rising, and people are without food, water, clothing, and shelter.
The impacts from this hurricane on these communities are shattering and will be long-lasting. Imagine a time that is considered one of the happiest times in Jamaica is drawing near—Christmas—and for many, this year will be far from merry. Jamaicans don't have insurance for their homes, so they will have to start all over. Many have lost their jobs due to the destruction of businesses. With that being said, how will they afford to rebuild?
I am seeking assistance to try and help as many persons as I can, even if it is to buy food, a piece of ply, a sheet of zinc, clothes, medications, and other necessities. With your help, we can make this possible and hopefully put a smile on many faces even during their darkest times. Every little counts. Thank you in advance.
