Help Save Lena
Donation protected
It is with forgiveness, grief, deep sadness, and despair that I reach out to you or anyone you know that can help. Sadly, unprovoked and without warning, Lena had a traumatic unfortunate encounter with another dog, which left her with a compound fracture in her leg, and a severe and threatening infection at the initial bite wound that has compromised her life. This is fairly time sensitive due to the severity of the injury and the infection.
Lena is my ultimate adventure companion, and any considerations would be incredible. I am reaching out to animal lovers, family, friends, and anyone for support. If you are unable, please pass this information along as someone knows someone. It's an incredible number and I am not sure that Lena will get there, yet (as you know) our pet children are worth every ounce of energy! With pride removed from my heart, I thank you for your consideration.

The serious infection that has developed is now resulting in the need for a THIRD surgery. The infection unfortunately is stemming from the original dog bite injury. Without this surgery the fracture will not be able to heal. This has put Lena and my family in a very difficult situation and we just want to see Lena alive and live a life as comfortable as possible. The infection and location (diagnosed as osteomyelitis) leaves a prognosis that remains unknown; meaning that if the infection is unable to get under control, Lena’s health becomes at risk. The vet who saved Lena initially has encouraged this GoFundMe moving forward, and any additional funding will go directly to his emergency fund for others.
While adhering to Vermont’s Covid restrictions, Lena and I were on a typical run in Vermont. Upon returning towards our car yet two miles away (as we’ve run hundreds and hundreds of miles together), we encountered another dog and Lena was attacked and bit. This was not a normal bite, yet a multi-compound fracture of her radius and ulna. In shock, I carried Lena the two miles to our car as she bled (shock or loss of blood scared me to how limp she was in my arms). We were both blood soaked and frightened. This was, and has been, traumatizing.

The proceeds are targeted to help save Lena’s life, leg and livelihood, while any other amounts will go directly to emergency Veterinarian offices in Vermont to help support others in need. We’ve relied on our pet children during the past year more than ever and I’m in hopes to save more than just my little girl's life.
There is a surgeon in Williston that thinks they can save both Lena and her leg. Lena would need a bone graft at the fracture site and the implanting of antimicrobial impregnated beads to help prevent and treat infection. There is always a risk of it not healing but he thought Lena would have a good prognosis. He quoted a cost of $7000 for the repair and mentioned doing it soon is better than later. Any additional funds will directly go to emergency Vet funds to help others.
