Hi Family and Friends!
We have set up this page for David and the Buck Family, one of our most loving families in the IHM Community.
David was recently diagnosed with B-cell Leukemia at age 16.
The Bucks have always been there for others, and now we get to show up for them.
Three weeks ago, David developed frequent nose bleeds. It was naturally considered seasonal allergies or a result of dry winter air. This past Sunday, David woke up with a stomach ache. Even though David went to school Monday and Tuesday, he came home extremely fatigued and took a Covid Test which produced negative results. By Wednesday, David stayed home from school and slept most of the day. Thursday came, and a fever of 101.3 developed by early afternoon. David was taken to the Pediatrician who immediately sent him to the ER. The Pediatrician’s initial prognosis was Anemia or Leukemia. David was admitted to the hospital where he was formally diagnosed with B-cell Leukemia.
A bit about David….David is known as Little David, Baby David, Buddha, Little Bobby, King David, School Mascot, David, Dave….you get the picture. He always has a smile on his face and has a great sense of humor. His laughter is infectious!
David is a sophomore at Mehlville High School where he plays soccer. David received his Eagle in December 2021. David's unselfishness is evident in the Eagle Scout project that he chose. The project was dedicated to one of our most beloved IHM family members, Jason. David wanted to do something for the family to support them.
David begins treatment this Monday, and it will be a long and painful journey. For the first 30 days, he will receive aggressive chemo and remain in the hospital for the first month and treatment (both chemo and possibly clinical trials) will continue initially for the first 9 – 12 months.
Although the family will have health insurance, Aaron is starting a new job, and Maria is taking FMLA. Not only medical expenses (deductibles and uncovered expenses), but living expenses may become an unforeseen burden. David’s sisters, Sarah and Katie, are an important part of this story, too. Remember them in your prayers as well. The family needs the village to uplift and support them in every way possible.
Thank you for any support that you may provide, whether it is emotionally or financially.
You got this, David!
